This cable comes with an unshielded sheath, relying on the twisted pair design for noise rejection and it is suitable for use in Gigabit Ethernet networks.
U/UTP or UNSHIELDED TWISTED PAIRS also known as UTP, this is currently the most common and basic method of cable construction, consisting of pairs of wires twisted together.
There is no shielding, instead the symmetrical twist in the wires create a balanced transmission line, helping to reduce electrical noise and EMI.
UTP cables are not limited to just transmitting one type of signal. They can transmit many different types of signals; such as data, voice, serial, and audio.
It is an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable that is capable of carrying 10 Mbps of data or voice transmissions. Its maximum possible bandwidth is 16 MHz.
Cat3 cable reached the peak of its popularity in the early 1990s, as it was then the industry standard for computer networks.
